Documentary PROJECTS

The community of women from The Well came out to share their stories – personal and authentic.  This photo captures a memorable moment.  I had the privilege to produce and design this “Evening of Story”  – our annual fundraising event in Baltimore.

The science is convincing.  Stories can be a force for healing and growth.

Much of my recent work centers on STORY as an effective tool for healing with women who are victims of trauma.  In my experience, I have seen a unique type of transformation occur when a woman sees greater good come out of the harm that was done to her.  And, without exception, every woman I work with wants to see her story help another woman.

There is actually a neuroscience around storytelling. As described by Lissa Rankin, MD: “Every time you tell your story and someone else who cares bears witness to it, you turn off the body’s responses, flipping off toxic stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine and flipping on relaxation responses that release healing hormones like oxytocin, dopamine, nitric oxide, and endorphins.”

At Story Matters I lean into sacred stories and draw from the Allender Methodology (www.allendercenter.org ) which focuses on a process of naming our deep woundedness and deep goodness.

“If we come to know our story and then give it away, we will discover the deepest meaning in our lives.”
